Tipitina’s TV Season 2 Presents Songs from ‘The Last Waltz’

Tipitina’s.TV will present The Last Waltz: A New Orleans Tribute to the famed performance from 1976 and subsequent film by Martin Scorsese (released 1978) featuring music by Canadian-American rock group, The Band. The Tip’s team states: “With this being a Thanksgiving tradition in New Orleans, we are excited this year’s event will benefit Second Harvest Food Bank.” Notable musicians involved in this show include George Porter, Ivan Neville, Dave Malone, Papa Mali, Anders Osborne, Mike Doussan, Erica Falls, Aaron Wilkinson, Darcy Malone, Dave Jordan, Stanton Moore, CR Gruver, Jake Eckert, Ron Johnson, Brad Walker, Jeff Albert, Scott Frock, and more.

On November 25, 1976, The Band said goodbye with a spectacular four hour performance at San Francisco’s famed Winterland Ballroom. The legendary concert–the original The Band lineup’s final show as a unit–became known as The Last Waltz and was later immortalized in the Scorsese film of the same name. As OffBeat Editor-in-Chief Jan Ramsey wrote in 2015, “Louisiana was well represented during the guest-filled extravaganza at Winterland that night, as Dr. John and Bobby Charles dropped by for renditions of ‘Such a Night’ and ‘Down South in New Orleans’ (unfortunately, Charles’ contribution was cut from Scorsese’s film). On top of that, the late Allen Toussaint wrote new horn arrangements that took many of The Band’s classic tunes to a new level.”

The show will start at 8 p.m. CST on Saturday, November 28, 2020 and tickets are currently available at www.Tipitinas.TV.
