Tipitina’s will host a benefit for The Roots of Music on Thursday, September 8, aimed at raising much needed funds to to support the band’s mission of nurturing the youth of New Orleans through music and community spirit.

The lineup of performances will include Re-Creations Brass Band, King Bronze, Roots Studio Academy, TBC Brass Band and Anjelika “Jelly” Joseph, who will also serve as the host of the program.

Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the show will start at 8 p.m. Tickets are on sale now and available for purchase at Tipitinas.com.

The Roots of Music is a nonprofit that empowers New Orleans youth while preserving and promoting the city’s unique musical and cultural heritage. Derrick Tabb (Grammy winner, CNN Hero) founded Roots in 2007 to keep young people off the streets in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Each core component of the band’s program—roundtrip transportation, homework/tutoring before music sessions, and a nutritious hot meal—speaks to Tabb’s own personal experiences growing up in New Orleans. On average, The Roots of Music reaches up to 200 youth per year through year-round music education programming, offering 2,500 hours of music and academic instruction, 30,400 meals, and 1,400 bus rides.
