For years, Jazz Fest Monday meant Instruments A Comin’, the annual benefit concert at Tipitina’s featuring the venue’s interns and local musicians. However, when ownership of Tip’s changed from the hands of Roland von Kurnatowski to Galactic, the former retained ownership of the Tipitina’s Foundation, the organization responsible for Instruments A Comin’.
Today (April 29), von Kurnatowski will present Interns A Comin’, the apparent replacement for Instruments A Comin’. Along with the Tipitina’s interns and Donald Harrison, Jr., the new IAC concert takes place at Lakeshore Landing (6701 Stars and Stripes Boulevard).
“Instruments A Comin’ has become Interns A Comin’,” said Roland von Kurnatowski, “as an homage to the internship program that we set up over a decade ago. They really are what makes the concert special every year.”
The benefit concert features Big Sam, George Porter Jr., Joe Dyson, Khris Royal, Jason Weaver, Shea Pierre, Ian Kelly, The Iguanas, Joy Orleans, Corey Henry, Glen Hall, Nayo Jones, Claude Bryant and the Uptown Allstars, and more TBA. It kicks off at 6 p.m. A donation of $10 is suggested.
