This Thursday, April 9, Tipitina’s will host a benefit concert for renowned New Orleans drummer Eric Bolivar, who was recently diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease.
The benefit, It’s A Family Affair: Drumming To The Same Beat, will bring together a host of New Orleans musicians to support their friend and bandmate.
Bolivar is suffering from Stage 5 kidney failure and undergoing daily dialysis, a situation which prevents him from working and touring as usual.
He will eventually require a transplant to survive.
Harry Shearer will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the benefit, and many of Bolivar’s friends and fellow musicians are slated to perform.
The lineup includes the Eric Bolivar Band featuring Khris Royal, Andrew Block, Erica Falls, and Nigel Hall; Honey Island Swamp Band with Dave Jordan and Johnny Vidacovich; Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes with Dave Malone; Bonerama with Dave Malone and Jon Gross; Billy Iuso and the Restless Natives with Michael Fou; Ian Smith and Khris Royal; Terry McDermott; Big D and Donnie Sundal; Dave Rosser, John Gros, Eric Cotton, Papa Mali, Colin Lake, Kirk Joseph, James Andrews, Shamarr Allen, Paul Sanchez, Margie Perez, Arsene Delay, Monica McIntyre, Lynn Drury, Dana Abbott, and more.
A slew of local drummers will take turns at the drum kit over the course of the evening, among them Stanton Moore, Russell Batiste, Alvin Ford, Jermal Watson, Derrick Freeman, Terence Houston, and others.
Two of the city’s premier painters–Frenchy and John Bukaty–will paint live, with the artwork to be auctioned online. The benefit will also feature a raffle.
Doors open at 8 p.m., the show will start at 8:30 p.m., and tickets are $21. All proceeds go to Bolivar for living and medical expenses.
