With Super Bowl XLVII won and done (Congrats to 2012 NFL champs the Baltimore Ravens!), it’s time to put your carnival suits back on and shake a leg for the final leg of Mardi Gras 2013. This Friday (February 8), spacefaring steppers the Krewe de Lune will hold its 5th annual Space Ball at Cafe Istanbul from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., and OffBeat’s got a pair of passes to this far-out junket up for grabs. In addition to an open bar, the party will feature performances by intergalactic electronic duo P.Y.M.P., DJs Rusty Lazer and Browntown, and dance troupe the Star-Steppin’ Cosmonaughties. Keeping with the night’s theme, Birds of Paradise: Lunar Migration, an interactive lunar landscape will line the path for those seeking to boldly dance like no one has ever danced before. Space suits are not required for entry; however costumes are strongly encouraged. Tickets to the event are $20 if purchased in advance either online, from a krewe member or at Idle Hands Tattoo Emporium (1815 Magazine St.), the Other Bar (5039 Freret St.) or Cafe Istanbul (2372 St. Claude Ave.).
