Music lovers are invited to City Park for the popular Thursdays at Twilight concert series, making a grand return after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. Enjoy mint juleps and array of musicians indoors at the Pavilion of the Two Sisters inside the New Orleans Botanical Garden. Gates open at 5 p.m. and concerts begin at 6 p.m. Admission is $15. Cocktails, wine, beer, soft drinks, water, and food available for purchase. No outside food, drink or pets allowed.
The following acts will perform for Thursdays at Twilight:
June 16 | Bobby Cure and The Poppa Stoppas
Travel back in time with Bobby Cure to the doo-wop days of the 1950s and ’60s and the great hits of New Orleans’ golden age of rhythm and blues.
June 23 | New Orleans Mystics
Songs from the Temptations, O’Jays, Marvin Gaye, and Otis Redding will all be part of this soulful tribute to some of the greatest music from the 1970s.
June 30 | Rocky’s Hot Swing Orchestra
Celebrate the traditions of our New Orleans swing era with an energetic, upbeat concert for the 4th of July. The program will include hits from the world War II era, popular modern tunes, and patriotic tributes.
July 7 | James Rivers Movement
James Rivers is a New Orleans musical treasure. He plays a mixture of rock, progressive jazz, rhythm and blues and gospel. Rivers is also one of only three jazz musicians ever known to play the bagpipes and would probably call himself a saxophonist, but his forte is his mazing musical dexterity that has helped him master more than a dozen instruments.
July 14 | Harvey Jesus and Fire
Harvey Jesus and Fire is one of Louisiana’s premiere dance bands and has performed all over the Gulf South and Las Vegas.
July 21 | Tim Laughlin
Tim Laughlin began playing the clarinet at age 8, taking private lessons at Werleins Music store. After high school, he joined the musicians union, playing with and hiring his “real world professors.” Laughlin has separated himself by composing original New Orleans jazz, as heard on his award-winning album, The Isle of Orleans.
July 28 | Lena Prima
To some performers, having a legendary father might be daunting. Not for Lena Prima. Born in show business and raised on the road with her famous dad, Louis Prima, the singer/songwriter/artist has earned her own reputation around the country for her energetic charismatic performances. She will perform songs of her father as well as some of her original tunes.
August 4 | Ladies of Soul
Naydja CoJoe, Rechelle Cook, and Sharon Martin are collectively known as “The Ladies of Soul.” They perform a repertoire of jazz, R&B, and familiar New Orleans tunes.
August 11 | John Boutté
John Boutté was voted best male vocalist of the year at both the Best of the Beat and the Big Easy Awards. His song “Tremé” is the theme song of the popular HBO series.
August 18 | Boogie Men Swing Band
The Boogiemen Swing Band will be performing the music of Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr. and more.
August 25 | Little Freddie King
The cousin of Lightnin’ Hopkins, Little Freddie King learned guitar from his father. In 1954 moved to New Orleans at the age of 14. Over the course of more than six decades he has played in many juke joints with his friends Babe Stovall, Slim Harpo, and Champion Jack Dupree, playing both acoustic and electric guitar.
Thursdays at Twilight is sponsored by the Louis and Virginia Clemente Foundation, Inc. with support from WWNO 89.9 FM. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit here.
