The non-profit Threadhead Cultural Foundation is thrilled to announce grant recipients for its 2020-21 funding cycle.
Despite the fundraising challenges of this year, THCF awarded $55,000 to 14 projects, events and organizations that contribute to, preserve, promote and disseminate the cultural heritage of New Orleans and the surrounding area of Louisiana.
“This has been an extremely hard year for all of the artists who haven’t been able to work their regular gigs and festivals,” said THCF President, Ken Cryer. “It’s challenging times like this when our mission of helping our regional artists thrive through financial support and assistance becomes even more meaningful.”
The 2020 grant recipients include artists Andre Bohren, John Davis, Egg Yolk Jubilee, Calvin Johnson, Jr., Lawrence Sieberth, Leslie Blackshear Smith, Marc Stone and Brad Walker. Organizations that received grant awards include the Danny Barker Festival, Lyrica Baroque, Dancing Grounds, Make Music NOLA, the New Orleans Musicians Assistance Fund, and Tekrema Center for Art and Culture.
THCF has awarded over $405,759 in grant funding to 140 artists and organizations in the last 12 years.
The Foundation would also like to congratulate the New Orleans Nightcrawlers and Sweet Cecilia for their Grammy nominations for Best Regional Roots Music Album. The Nightcrawlers were awarded a grant in 2019 to help produce their nominated album, Atmosphere, and Sweet Cecilia received a grant in 2018 which helped fund production for their nominated album, A Tribute to Al Berard.
The Threadhead Cultural Foundation states it is thrilled to have contributed funding to these amazing projects and could not be happier for the recognition these artists have received from the Recording Academy.
