The Threadhead Cultural Foundation has announced it is currently taking applications for its seventh round of grant funding for artistic projects and cultural events.
The grants will be awarded to “artistic projects whose work is in the tradition of preserving, promoting and disseminating the cultural heritage of New Orleans and the surrounding area of Louisiana,” according to the non-profit.
The foundation is planning to award five artistic project grants and two Buddy Mann Memorial event grants, though this number is susceptible to change.
The maximum amount is $5,000 for an artistic project grant request and $2,500 for a Buddy Mann event grant. The funds can be applied to any fees paid to artists, nonperforming artists and professionals including: composers, technical personnel, equipment rental and facilities rental.
Applicants must have connections to the State of Louisiana and will be selected based on criteria, such as the project’s adherence to the foundation’s mission, project merit, cultural impact and feasibility.
Applications must be postmarked by October 23, 2015. Grant awards will be announced on November 30, 2015. The projects must be completed by December 1, 2016.
The foundation, founded in 2009, raises funds through memberships, fundraising events and donations in order to promote the cultural heritage of New Orleans through grants and assistance to musicians.
In 2014, the foundation awarded grants to Bamboula 2000, Brice Miller’s Kick’n Some Brass brass band curriculum for young musicians, the Friends of the Cabildo’s Oral History Program, WWOZ’s “New Orleans Calling” audio documentary series, the New Orleans Jazz Vipers among others.
