The third annual CimaFest NOLA is set to take place at The Civic Theatre on Friday, May 2, 2025, during the second weekend of Jazz Fest. The event will feature Grammy-nominated Afro-Cuban funk artist Cimafunk and his band, La Tribu, as the headlining act. Additional performers will be announced at a later date.
Cimafunk is known for his ability to merge Cuban rhythms with elements of American funk. Alongside his band, La Tribu, he has earned recognition for performances that celebrate cultural heritage and incorporate diverse musical influences.
The festival highlights the cultural connections between Cuba and New Orleans, blending Afro-Cuban rhythms with New Orleans funk. Previous editions of CimaFest have included performances by artists such as Chucho Valdés, La Dame Blanche, and Big Freedia, showcasing a range of musical styles and influences.
“CimaFest is about more than music; it’s a celebration of heritage, groove, and the global funk movement,” says Cimafunk. “This year, we’re bringing even more energy and surprises. It’s going to be a night to remember.”
Cimafunk, described by Rolling Stone as “one of the most exciting live acts of our time,” is known for combining Afro-Cuban rhythms with jazz, fun and soul. His performances, supported by his eight-piece band, are recognized for their energy and creativity.
CimaFest NOLA also serves as a platform for cultural exchange, with initiatives like the “Getting Funky in Havana” program in partnership with the Trombone Shorty Foundation. The program aims to strengthen the relationship between Cuban and New Orleans musicians and foster opportunities for emerging artists.
