Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is one of the most-cherished holiday traditions, and so, like any tradition, it was a matter of time until Louisiana gave the ballet a twist. Hence, The Pecan Cracker, adapated from The Nutcracker by Ricky Graham, Sean Patterson and Mandy Zirkenbach, directed by Graham with musical arrangements by Jefferson Turner.
The musical features local holiday mainstays like buttermilk drops, rum balls, petit fours, a cockroach family, dancing alligators, and snowflakes in City Park. It has been playing at the Southern Rep on Thursdays through Saturdays this December, and has its final performances the next two days, December 22 and 23 at 7:30 p.m.
