The NOLA Project Brings Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” to Life

Theatre for the bold takes on new meaning this spring as The NOLA Project, known for its innovative productions, produces their take on William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”. Featuring music, dance, fools, lovers, magic, and monsters, this adventurous reimagining promises to be a feast for the senses.

Following the success of previous productions such as “Dracula” and “The Colored Museum”, The NOLA Project is closing out Season 19 with a stormy script adapted and directed by ensemble member James Bartelle.

Bartelle, a founding member of The NOLA Project, brings his creative vision to life as both a writer and director. A multiple Big Easy Award-winner, Bartelle is a familiar face on the New Orleans stage. His acting credits with The NOLA Project include a diverse range of roles in productions like “Get This Lake Off My House”, “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, “Twelfth Night”, “Marie Antoinette” and many more.

As a writer, Bartelle’s credits include “A Kingdom of Statues”, “She Remembers” and “The Spider Queen”. He has also directed The NOLA Project’s sold-out run of “Romeo & Juliet”.

Shakespeare’s Tempest, Reimagined is presented in partnership with Friends of Lafitte Greenway and NORD. The production invites audiences to join them on the Greenway at 436 N Norman C Francis Parkway in May, as they forge a new way forward through Shakespeare’s classic tale.

All performances begin at 8pm and run approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Online ticket sales end two hours prior to performances, but tickets can still be purchased at the production venue within two hours of the show.
