Don’t miss the Loyola University Spring 24 Concert featuring the legendary Dixie Cups on Thursday, March 7th at 7:30 p.m. in Nunemaker Hall. This exclusive event, hosted by the esteemed Arthel Neville, will feature a special Q&A session with the original Dixie Cup member, Barbara Hawkins.
Opening the show will be Loyola’s very own Final Take, promising to set the stage alight with their electrifying performance.
The Dixie Cups are most known for the song “Chapel of Love”. The track, sung by three teenagers from New Orleans – Sisters Barbara & Rosa Hawkins and cousin Joan Johnson, led to their iconic journey from a local talent contest to recording hits that reshaped the American pop catalog. The Dixie Cups’ unique infusion of New Orleans soul into “Chapel of Love” and “Iko Iko” set the stage for a breakout success that the world couldn’t ignore.
There has recently been a resurgence of interest in their music and they are even the inspiration behind the official 2024 Jazz Fest poster.
