This Friday, The Lab RCRDS will digitally release J. Real Hip Hop’s new single, “Hollow House,” featuring Cyborg, a Louisiana native and fellow member of the 9th Galaxy Collective. “Hollow House,” which samples electro-pop band Active Child’s “Playing House,” is also self-produced by J. Real Hip Hop under the pseudonym TheToyFactory. It’s a brooding song that recalls the spacy grime of older groups like Main Attrakionz and SpaceGhostPurrp’s Raider Klan, but with a more pronounced emphasis on storytelling. “Hollow House” was recorded in LaPlace, homebase of The Lab RCRDS, and it was engineered by Dexter Beats.
As J. Real Hip Hop explains, “This track, being a patch from the quilt I turned this project into, shows only one piece of a bigger story. The MalWare Project is a story about a young boy dealing with turmoil he’s never felt before and ‘Hollow House’ is the part of that turmoil that was spawned from a young love lost.” This sort of coming-of-age concept album is becoming more and more common in hip-hop following Kendrick Lamar’s breakthrough album good kid, m.A.A.d. City. The song will be available for digital download on The Lab RCRDS’s bandcamp page on Friday, June 28 at 4 p.m.
