The Historic New Orleans Collection will offer a free screening of “The Cincinnati Kid” on Saturday, August 30th at 10:30 a.m. in the Williams Research Center.
The screening marks the fourth installment of THNOC’s ongoing exhibition, “From Cameo to Close-up: Louisiana in Film,” an examination of Louisiana’s role in the film industry spanning from the time of silent films into the mid 1990s.
Prior to the viewing of “The Cincinnati Kid,” senior historian John Magill will provide an introduction and context about Louisiana’s role in the Steve Mcqueen film.
Set in 1930’s New Orleans, “The Cincinnati Kid” premiered at the Saenger Theater in October of 1965, only a month after Hurricane Betsy flooded New Orleans. Proceeds from the screening were graciously donated to the Betsy Fund, which assisted Hurricane victims in New Orleans.
Three more screenings will be held in conjunction with THNOC’s exhibit, including “Blaze,” “Miller’s Crossing,” and “These Amazing Shadows.”
