[UPDATED] The next major festival in the area is the Hangout Beach Music Festival, which takes place May 14-16 on the beach at Gulf Shores, Alabama. Performers include Trey Anastasio and TAB, the Zac Brown Band (pictured), John Legend, Jakob Dylan and Three Legs, featuring Neko Case and Kelly Hogan, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Girl Talk, and many more.
Not surprisingly, festival organizers are concerned about the effects of the BP oil leak. According to the fest’s Web site:
The Hangout Music Fest is moving forward as planned for a great weekend of music and white sandy beaches. Like everyone on the Gulf Coast, we are monitoring the clean-up of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. We are relying on updates from the official response team, made up of the US Coast Guard, NOAA, Homeland Security, Dept. of the Interior, BP and Transocean for our information. If there is any change to this situation, we will offer updates immediately through the website as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages.
The leak is the second challenge the festival has faced in recent days. The Flaming Lips were scheduled to headline Saturday night, but the recent hospitalization of band member Steven Drozd forced the band to cancel. There has been no official statement regarding Drozd’s reason for entering the hospital, but on Twitter, he wrote:
Thank you, everyone, for your concern. I had to do this and I’m getting it together.
Tickets are on sale now for Hangout.
Update: 3:18 p.m.: The Roots have been added to the Hangout’s lineup to replace the Flaming Lips.
