New Orleans Photo Alliance and PhotoNOLA are pleased to announce New Orleans’ first-ever iteration of public photography project The FENCE in conjunction with Brooklyn-based organization Photoville. The FENCE opens to the public on Saturday, November 14 on the Lafitte Greenway trail, starting at Norman Francis Parkway (formerly Jeff Davis) and extending towards Broad Street, featuring 1200 feet of photography. The FENCE is being installed by local construction company, Palmisano, and will headline the annual photography festival PhotoNOLA (December 9-12, 2020), with related events to be announced Curated photography will be on display through Sunday, February 21, 2021.
The Photoville FENCE is a year-round public photography project exhibited in major parks and downtowns across North America. Featuring over 90 photographers annually, the exhibition brings compelling visual stories into the public realm, and to a wide and diverse audience. Consistently attracting exceptional work by a diverse pool of photographers, the project spotlights a wide range of photographic and lens-based stories. By exploring the universal themes of People, Streets, Play, Creatures, Home, Food, and Nature, the exhibition elevates our understanding of the world-at-large and issues close to home.
Selected by a jury of 70 prominent curators and photography professionals, the FENCE will feature the work of over 100 esteemed national photographers, including 6 from New Orleans: Bruce Sunpie Barnes, Jourdan Barnes, Patrick Niddrie, Aria Mickenberg, Thom Bennett and William Widmer.
