The Ella Project to Host Music Licensing Collective Zoom Workshop for Songwriters

The Ella Project will continue its series on the Music Modernization Act and how musicians and songwriters need to be prepared for these legal changes continues via Zoom on Wednesday, December 9 at 2:00 p.m. with an in depth look at the new national Music Licensing Collective. The Collective launches in January 2021 and will issue and administer blanket mechanical licenses for eligible streaming and download services (digital service providers or DSPs) in the United States. The Collective will then collect the royalties due under those licenses from the DSPs and pay songwriters, composers, lyricists, and music publishers.

Presented by The Ella Project, the New Orleans Jazz Museum and OffBeat with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, this workshop features Bart Herbison, Executive Director of the Nashville Songwriters Association International, and Rebecca Gates, musician, artist and activist and leader of The Spinanes as they discuss:

  • How the Music Licensing Collective will work.
  • How it improves the current system of licensing and royalties.
  • What songwriters, composers and publishers need to do to be prepared for this new system.
  • Plus your questions!

This workshop is free, but email [email protected] for Zoom access. For more information, visit here.
