According to The Broadside’s social media channels, what started as a quick phone call from Corey Henry has turned into a four-week celebration of second line culture, and another partnership with the Krewe of Red Beans. In a Facebook post, The Broadside announced: “Ladies and Gentlemen, and everyone in between, we are excited to announce the New Orleans Footwork Festival! Each week we will feature a different Social Aid & Pleasure club, complete with their full posse of dancers and brass bands. The dancers will perform on a second stage while the brass brings the music to the masses. We are incredibly excited about this series and want to thank Corey Henry for organizing the special event. Tickets are on sale now.”
In a previous interview, Henry stated: “Being in Treme was my biggest inspiration, being around all that music at once. We always had brass bands playing—the Pinstripes, Olympia, the Dirty Dozen. I’d go outside and they’d be playing a party or doing a Second Line. I got inspired by that and of course it’s in my family, my uncle and grandfather.”
The lineup is as follows:
April 4 – Dumaine Gang Social Aid and Pleasure Club with Truth Brass Band
April 11 – Nine Times Social Aid and Pleasure Club with King of Brass
April 18 – We Are One Social Aid and Pleasure Club with Sporty’s Brass Band
April 25 – YMO Social Aid and Pleasure Club with Young Pin Stripe Brass Band
