Friday night, we present the Best of the Beat at Generations Hall. In addition to handing out awards and recognizing this year’s honorees – Dave Bartholomew, Derrick Tabb and the Roots of Music, Treme and Baton Rouge’s Johnny Palazzotto – we’re hosting a night of Louisiana music with bands playing sets on two stages.
A number of the performers are up for Best of the Beat Awards including Meschiya Lake, Wasboard Rodeo, Creole String Beans, Lyrikill, Susan Cowsill, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk – a nominee for Best Artist and Best Album, in addition to Best R&B/Funk Artist and Album – and the Stooges Brass Band. Chubby Carrier is not only up for Best Zydeco Album and Artist, but he’s nominated for a Grammy for Best Cajun/Zydeco Album as well for Zydeco Junkie.
Doors open at 6 p.m., with a full menu of food from local restaurants and caterers. Here’s the music lineup:

The night ends with a solid dose of funk with the indie hip-hop of the Soundclash All-Stars, the classic, heavy funk of Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, and the street funk of this year’s Red Bull Street Kings competition, the Stooges Brass Band.
