Creole soul artist Marcella & Her Lovers will perform at Frenchmen Street hot-spot d.b.a. on Thursday, March 12. Marcella’s father, Grammy-winning zydeco musician Terrance Simien, will sit in with the band.
Born in Lafayette, Marcella was rooted in creole tradition since she was born. Her father, two-time Grammy award0winning Zydeco artist Terrance Simien, inspired her to get on stage and begin performing at a young age. Marcella moved to Memphis and graduated from the prestigious Memphis College of Art which immersed her in Memphis soul music and helped her create her hybrid sound. Her music is a joyous combination of Memphis soul and New Orleans funk, accented by the Creole accordion. Her band features some of Memphis’ brightest musicians and her soulful vocals shine in her passionate, exciting performances.
Terrance Simien is no stranger to performing in New Orleans. A celebrated zydeco artist, Simien has played every Jazz Fest since 1986. He began playing zydeco music as a teenager in his small community of Mallet in St. Landry Parish. His career in music never stopped from there, and Simien has now performed in more than 45 countries, has two Grammy wins under his belt, and has collaborated with Randy Newman to write a song for Disney’s Princess and the Frog.
Marcella & Her Lovers will perform at d.b.a. on Thursday, March 12 starting at 7:00 pm. Those interested can RSVP for the performance here. For more information about Marcella & Her Lovers, visit the band’s official website.
