The Michael Murphy-directed documentary Up From the Streets: New Orleans: The City of Music will be the subject of a live Q&A on Tuesday, May 26. Participating in the event are the film’s host, the Oscar-nominated and multiple Grammy Award-winning musician Terence Blanchard as well as Murphy and Preservation Hall Creative Director Ben Jaffe.
Produced by Eagle Rock Entertainment, the online Q&A event is running concurrently with Up From the Streets‘ virtual cinema release and is a follow up to a similar Q&A which took place on May 16. The film’s virtual release not only provided fans worldwide with an opportunity to experience the acclaimed documentary but also serves as a means of supporting local movie theaters suffering income loss due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
In addition to the film’s release and the Q&A series, an official Spotify playlist has been released as a companion piece. It features music from the film including works from Mahalia Jackson, Little Richard, Louis Armstrong, Allen Toussaint, Dr. Michael White and many more. Check it out below.
May 26’s live online Q&A takes place at 8 p.m Central. Folks can pre-order free tickets at this link. Those interested in purchasing a ticket to watch the film and support local theaters can find a state-by-state list here.
