The five-day Tennessee Williams & New Orleans Literary Festival is returning to the French Quarter from Wednesday, March 25 to Sunday, March 29.
The festival will feature a variety of events catered to lovers of literature, theatre, and New Orleans culture. Tennessee Williams, the well-known playwright, will be celebrated through the variety of festivities, contests, workshops, alongside music, food, drinks, and of course theatre!
This year’s literary events features a Writer’s Craft Series with award-winning writers as well as a Literary Discussion Series led by writers, publishers, and literary scholars.
Theatre events include productions of Tennessee Williams’ “In The Bar of a Tokyo Hotel” (The Tennessee Williams Theatre Company of New Orleans), as well as “The End of the Beginning,” a combination of Williams’ “The Demolition Downtown” and “The Chalky White Substance,” presented by Beaubourg Theatre Company. Additionally, Southern Rep will present Steve Yockey’s “Reykjavik.”
Special events include a variety of performances. Drummers and Smoke is a music event which will feature New Orleans area musicians performing at The Palm Court Jazz Cafe. Books and Beignets is a book club discussion which will be held in Jackson Square. And, of course, the annual Stella Shouting Contest.
Over 95 speakers will present at the festival, many of whom are New Orleans natives. Notable local speakers include New York Times bestselling author Jami Attenberg; Allison Alsup and Tom Andes, co-founders of the New Orleans Writer’s Workshop; and Alys Arden, bestselling author of the Casquette Girls series, among dozens of other novelists, memoirists, scholars, musicians, and the like.
