Last week, New Orleans lost a true original with the passing of Eva Louis Perry, better known as Tee Eva. The namesake of Tee-Eva’s Authentic New Orleans Pralines passed away at 83 on Thursday, June 7.
Details behind a second line and forthcoming memorial service have now been announced. Tonight, June 11, her Magazine Street pralines business will serve as the launch point for a second line in her honor. Beginning at 6 p.m., the 5201 Magazine Street locale will open its doors to the city as large crowds are expected to gather. Sponsored by Judy Hill and James Andrews, the second line will provide fellow Baby Dolls as well as Mardi Gras Indians and musicians to come together to celebrate the life and legacy of one of the city’s most cherished local characters.
Then, on Saturday, June 16, Guiding Light Missionary Baptist Church will host a memorial service. From 9-9:45 a.m. there will be a visitation, followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service. The church is located at 2012 Washington Avenue in Faubourg Livaudais.
Details about another, public memorial event are expected to be released soon.
