Tank and the Bangas Celebrate André 3000 with New Single

Grammy-nominated New Orleans funk band Tank and the Bangas debuted a new single today, “For André,” via Verve Forecast. The single celebrates the birthday of Outkast icon André 3000.

“We love André 3000. We love Outkast. André has culturally shaped hip-hop in a very unique way from his clothing to his cadence. Tank fell in love with him along with the rest of the world a long time ago. For his birthday, we all thought an ode to him would be the perfect gift,” the band shares. Listen to the single here

Tank and the Bangas received great acclaim in 2017 when they unanimously won NPR’s Tiny Desk Contest with their song “Quick.” Since then, the band has continued to wow audiences, continuously touring, selling out venues nationally and internationally, and appearing at famous festivals including Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Newport Jazz Festival. They had a featured spot in Rolling Stone’s “10 Artists You Need To Know,” regarding the group as “A secular church experience, with freewheeling improvisational chops and positive vibes.”

The group, composed of Tarriona “Tank” Ball, Norman Spence (keys), Joshua Johnson (drums), and Albert Allenback (saxophone, flute) released their major label debut, Green Balloon, via Verve Forecast last year. The album received widespread acclaim and earned the band a Grammy nomination for “Best New Artist” at the 2019 Grammy Awards. Recently, Tank and the Bangas took the spotlight on the cover of the February 2020 edition of OffBeat. Their cover story may be read here
