My Sweet Lawd: George Harrison Tribute at Tipitina’s

After the success of their Paul McCartney and John Lennon tribute concerts, a bunch of the usual suspects–including Davis Rogan, Jonathan Pretus, Debbie Davis, Andre Bohren, and Darcy Malone Boye–are gearing up to host a George Harrison tribute this Friday at Tipitina’s.

My Sweet LawdAs audience members have come to expect, the lineup will feature local musicians doing spirited covers of their favorite tunes.

This time, it will be Harrison numbers as rendered by Andre Bohren, Christopher Boye, Davis, Ken Faucheux, Kimberly Kaye & Tiffany Jones, Malone, Alex McMurray, Kyle Melancon & Bill Davis (of Dash Rip Rock), Mark Mullins, Marc Paradis, Josh Paxton, Ben Perrine, Matt Perrine, David Pomerleau, Pretus & Stephen Turner (of The Breton Sound), Rogan, and Felix Wohlleben.

Paul was the first Beatle to be honored by the gang, with a tribute concert that came about because he fell ill at the last minute and had to postpone a New Orleans concert this past June.

Rogan quickly rallied a group of musician-friends (in a rare occurrence, not many were gigging that night since they’d all had McCartney tickets) to play the show themselves at the Howlin’ Wolf.

The show attracted about 250 people.

“The energy was so great, and the energy from the crowd was so great, and the room was so full,” Rogan said in an earlier interview.

According to him, they’d already decided to do another one before the show was over, and they ended up hosting Lennon tribute on October 9th at Tipitina’s, on what would have been his 74th birthday.

The timing was perfect, because the McCartney show had been rescheduled for the 11th.

Now it’s Harrison’s turn. Tickets are onsale at tipitinas.com for $12 apiece, and doors open at 9 p.m.

Be on the look out, because we can only assume that Ringo will be next.
