Support New Orleans’ painted utility box artists at “Mini Box Auction”

Community Visions Unlimited (CVU NOLA) is the organization behind one of New Orleans’ signature earmarks: the unique, vibrantly painted utility boxes depicting everything from swamp creatures to Leah Chase and Fats Domino.

CVU NOLA has been doing its work since 1994 with an aim to assist New Orleans neighborhoods through art, housing and empowerment. The utility box project was launched after Hurricane Katrina to “assist our neighborhoods by reducing graffiti, litter and to promote local artists.”

In support of the artists who help brighten up our neighborhoods, Community Visions Unlimited is again hosting its annual “Mini Box Auction.” There, mini replicas of the utility boxes will be auctioned off and attendees will be able to have a bite to eat, patronize a cash bar, hear some good music and, of course, help a good cause.

If you love the painted utility boxes you will want to join Community Visions Unlimited (cvunola.org) for their once a year “Mini Box Auction”.  Come meet some of the utility box artists, have a bite to eat, libations (cash bar), good music and help a good cause. The event takes place Friday, October 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the New Orleans Yacht Club (403 N. Roadway St.).

To date, Community Visions has completed 220 boxes in Algiers, Uptown, Lakeview, Broad Street Corridor, Mid-City, Lower Garden District, 7th Ward, Gert town, Gentilly, New Orleans East, Carrollton, Bio-Medical, Downtown, Claiborne, Westbank, Metairie, Kenner and St. Bernard.

Community Visions Unlimited is a 501c3 nonprofit so all donations are tax deductible.  See more at www.cvunola.org.
