Each year, New Orleans is the site of one of the world’s most unique cultural gatherings. Mardi Gras Indian tribes come together on what is termed “Super Sunday” to display heritage and culture, showcasing hand-sewn and beaded suits, signature dancing and tribal chanting.
This year’s Super Sunday takes place on March 17. The free, public festival will feature two stages and more than 50 food and crafts vendors. In addition to the many Mardi Gras Indian tribes, a handful of local musicians will perform.
The lineup for this year’s Super Sunday includes Hot 8 Brass Band, DJ Jubilee, The Original Pinettes Brass Band, DJ Captain Charles, Lady Buckjumpers and many more.
At 11 a.m., the festival will begin at A.L. Davis Park (located at Washington Ave. and LaSalle St.). At 1 p.m., the parade will begin, moving onto Simon Bolivar Avenue, Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Claiborne Ave. and returning to the park for cultural activities and musical performances.
