Super Sunday Festival is Back

The city of New Orleans is gearing up to celebrate the 40th annual Super Sunday Festival hosted by REAL/Mardi Gras Indian Council. The event will occur on Sunday, March 19, 2023, from noon to 6 p.m. at A.L. Davis Park  (Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street).

The festivities kick off at 1 p.m. with Indian Strut, a procession of Mardi Gras Indians showcasing their elaborate and colorful handmade suits, featuring several brass bands such as Big 6, Young Pinstripe, Keep It Rolling, YMO, Ladies Buck Jumpers, Prince of Wales, and the N’Awlins D’Awlins Baby Dolls. This is a prime chance to witness Black Masking Indians’ elaborate suits from  tribes across the city as they showcase their vibrant and colorful hand-crafted costumes, as well as their culture—which has deep roots in New Orleans cultural history and has influenced many New Orleans musical cultural icons, such as the Neville Brothers, Dr. John, the Meters and countless more.

The festival aims to celebrate music, food, and dancing, and features an Indian and R&B stage in the park and a block party outside near the Dew Drop Inn. The music lineup includes popular DJs such as DJ Maniac, DJ Slick Leo, DJ Captain Charles, DJ Jubilee, Lucky Lou, and Keedy Black. The MC for the event will be Greg Stanford, with live performances by B.R.W. Band, Rechelle and the Regeneration Band and the Hot 8.

The Super Sunday Festival is held to celebrate the New Orleans African American Community Culture every third Sunday of March. This event is free to the public.
