Sturgill Simpson will make his debut at the Saenger Theatre on Friday, September 9.
The country maverick and his band will be on the road in support of his critically-acclaimed new album, A Sailor’s Guide to Earth. The record, which was written as a letter to Simpson’s first child, includes a haunting cover of Nirvana’s “In Bloom” as well as the hit single “Brace for Impact (Live a Little).”
Released in early 2016, the album debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 and #1 on the Billboard Country chart. In addition to members of his touring band–drummer Miles Miller, keyboardist Jeff Crow, bassist Chuck Bartels and guitarist Laur Joamets–the LP also features appearances by The Dap Kings, as well as Dave Roe on bass, Dan Dugmore on steel guitar, Dougie Wilkinson on bagpipes, Garo Yellin and Arthur Cook on cello, Jonathan Dinklage and Whitney LaGrange on violin.
A Sailor’s Guide to Earth is the follow up to Simpson’s equally well-received 2014 effort, Metamodern Sounds in Country Music, a record that notably blended elements of outlaw country with psychedelic rock.
Tickets for Simpson’s show at the Saenger will go on sale this Friday, May 20 at 10am.
