This Sunday, student musicians from Loyola, Xavier, Dillard, and Tulane will come together for a free concert and voter registration drive at The Broadside. The event, part of the NOLAxNOLA College Showcase, will take place from 4-10 p.m. on October 8, 2024, and will feature performances on both indoor and outdoor stages.
Organized by College Communities of C.A.R.E., the concert aims to engage students and encourage voter participation ahead of the upcoming 2024 presidential election. NOLAxNOLA co-founder Sig Greenebaum helped coordinate the event, which will spotlight seven musical artists, including performers like Kota Dosa, Apricot Jam, Sari Jordan and Yung Delirious.
Loyola alum Mia Borders, worked with the collective to help integrate music into their voter outreach efforts. “We wanted to find a way to bring students together through music and inspire them to participate in the democratic process,” Borders said. She will perform alongside the Loyola All Stars, a group composed of faculty and alumni.
HeadCount, a nonpartisan organization, will be present at the event to help attendees register to vote before the October 7 deadline.
The showcase is a collaboration between several sponsors, including Dillard University Center for Racial Justice, Third Coast Entertainment, and local businesses like Ecology Brewing and Rock & Brews Restaurant. Organizers hope the concert will not only provide entertainment but also encourage young people to take an active role in shaping their future by voting.
