The Experience Hendrix Tour will take over the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on March 6, 2016.
The multi-artist celebration of the life and music of Jimi Hendrix will feature performances by a stacked lineup of guitar virtuosos, including Buddy Guy, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Dweezil Zappa, Eric Johnson, Zakk Wylde and Jonny Lang. Joining them will be Jimi Hendrix Experience/Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox, as well as guitarist Mato Nanji, drummer Chris Layton (of Steve Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble fame), and vocalists Henri Brown and Noah Hunt. The musicians will deliver renditions of classic Hendrix tunes from “Purple Haze” to “Voodoo Child” and everything in between.
Additionally, special guests Keb’ Mo, Doylbe Bramhall II, and Ana Popovic and the Slide Brothers will appear at select Experience Hendrix dates, though Bramhall is currently the only one scheduled to play the New Orleans show.
“Jimi Hendrix was one of the greatest guitar players ever and we all need to keep his music alive,” says Buddy Guy.
“My dad told me some great stories about playing with him,” adds Dweezil Zappa. “Jimi’s ability to express himself so completely with an electric guitar is very inspiring to me. There was an authentic expression of his personality in the music. And that rings true to every generation. He wasn’t following trends. His playing was soulful and exciting and surprising.”
Tickets for the Experience Hendrix Tour will go on sale this Friday, October 30. Fans will be able to purchase them at the Saenger Theatre box office or online via Ticketmaster.
