The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music has officially opened registration for its spring programs, offering a transformative opportunity for youth to engage in music and the arts. Spring after-school and Saturday classes are open to students aged 8-18, with no prior music experience required. Participants can explore a diverse range of disciplines, including piano, strings, percussion, woodwinds, brass, voice, music technology and production, dance and more. The program’s mission extends beyond artistic instruction, nurturing young people academically and socially.
The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, located in the heart of New Orleans, stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity for underserved communities. Named after the legendary jazz pianist and educator Ellis Marsalis, the Center is dedicated to fostering musical, academic, and personal growth among children, youth, and musicians from neighborhoods impacted by poverty and social challenges. Through a variety of programs and services, it uses music as a catalyst for social change, providing a safe and nurturing environment where creativity and collaboration thrive. The Center not only honors the city’s vibrant cultural heritage but also empowers the next generation to reach their fullest potential through the transformative power of the arts. The Center also serves as a community resource and a catalyst for cultural preservation.
Registration costs $30 per student for the semester, making this an affordable gateway to high-quality arts education. Classes begin January 6, 2025.
