New Orleans burlesque mainstay Bella Blue and Vox and the Hound guitarist Rory Callais have organized a tribute to David Bowie that will take place on Saturday, July 30 at the Howlin’ Wolf. Billed as “Space Oddi-Tease: a Burlesque Tribute to David Bowie,” the show will use live music, visual arts, videography and burlesque to tell Bowie’s life story, from his youth as David Jones to his death earlier this year.
“David Bowie gave me this unspoken permission to be a chameleon through performance,” says Blue, headmistress of the New Orleans School of Burlesque. “I didn’t have to be one specific type of burlesque performer.”
The night’s live music will be handled by members of Sweet Crude, Vox and Hound, Little Maker and Exports.
Space Oddi-tease will mark the latest Bowie tribute to come through New Orleans since the incomparable performer passed away on January 10, two days after his 69th birthday. Past events have included a massive second line led by Arcade Fire, as well as a Jazz Fest benefit that raised money for ALS research.
Tickets for Space Oddi-Tease are currently on sale for $15.
