To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Southern Screen, the non-profit multi-disciplinary arts organization dedicated to supporting southern creatives, is hosting Southern Screen Sessions, an online five-part masterclass workshop series available to everyone for no cost. Southern Screen Sessions is presented in partnership with Louisiana Entertainment, a division of Louisiana Economic Development.
The workshops series functions to educate and engage creative professionals and art appreciators alike about the art of storytelling through different artistic media like films, music, visual arts, and more. Southern Screen Sessions will begin in June and continue throughout the summer.
Included in the series lineup are notable entertainment professionals from around the country. The schedule and presenters are as follows:
June 9: “Breaking into the Business” with Alison Becker, actress (“Parks and Recreation”)
June 23: “Experimenting with Recording at Home” with Chad Viator, record producer
July 7: “Finding Your Voice as a Cinematographer” with Natalie Kingston, DP (Lost Bayou)
July 21: “The Nature of Documentary Producing” with Darcy Mckinnon, film producer (Maquilapolis)
These workshops are presented in response to the devastating toll the pandemic has taken on the entertainment industry due to venue closures, cancelled productions, and other setbacks. “With this series, our intention is to give back while also continuing our mission of providing a platform for storytellers to sharpen their skills,” states Julie Bordelon, the founder and executive director of Southern Screen.
