On Wednesday, September 16th, the Southern Rep Theater company will launch its Mainstage season with a preview performance of the new play Stage Kiss, benefitting WRBH, a non-profit reading radio station providing blind accessible content.
“They provide a unique and valuable service to the community with their terrific lineup of news, books, and original programming that is smart, literary-minded, and well-informed,” said Southern Rep’s Producing Artistic Director Aimée Hayes about WRBH, with whom she has collaborated on multiple occasion, making appearances on the station’s Audio Portraits interview program.
“It’s always a treat to visit their studio to talk about what we do at Southern Rep, and we thought it was time to invite them into the theatre to showcase their own work,” Hayes said.
Stage Kiss is a romantic comedy with a 1930s, melodramatic tone, written by Sarah Ruhl and directed by Jason Kirkpatrick. $5 for each ticket sold on Wednesday will directly benefit WRBH.
Previews will run through September 18th. The play will premiere on Saturday, September 19th and run on Thursdays through Sundays through October 10.
With Stage Kiss, Southern Rep will be opening their 29th season since the company was founded in 1986. The 2015-2016 season’s showings will take place at the Ashe Power House Theater, Southern Rep’s new renovated home in the Ashe Cultural Center as of March 2015.
“Their creative output is great and we’re looking forward to the performance and to working together more in the future,” said WRBH’s Marketing Director David Benedetto. “We’ve enjoyed working with Southern Rep in the past and we’re happy to enter into an official partnership.”
