Soulive and Toubab Krewe have both announced after shows for this year’s Jazz Fest.
Toubab Krewe, an instrumental rock outfit that fuses American jam band stylings with the music of West Africa, will take the stage at d.b.a. on Monday, May 1 at 2am (technically the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 2). They will follow that show with an 11pm gig at Blue Nile on Thursday, May 4.
These Jazz Fest dates will mark Toubab Krewe’s first club shows since 2015, when they began a hiatus from club touring after 10 years on the road. It will also be something of a hometown gig for Luke Quaranta, who currently resides in New Orleans and plays with local groups like Pirate’s Choice and Kettle Black. According to Quaranta, the group is working on new music and plans to add more dates to their 2017 schedule.
Soulive, on the other hand, will head to the House of Blue New Orleans for 2am late night performance on Saturday, May 6. The trio will be joined by Lettuce saxophonist Ryan Zoidis and trumpeter Eric Bloom—aka The Shady Horns—for the gig, which will take place roughly a week after Soulive opens for Gov’t Mule at the Saenger Theatre on Friday, April 28.
The beloved jazz trio last took the stage in New Orleans when they played a set at the inaugural Bear Creek Bayou festival last fall.
Tickets for the Soulive show will go on sale Thursday, March 9, while tickets for Toubab Krewe’s show at Blue Nile are already on sale. Ticketing information for Toubab Krewe’s show at d.b.a. is not yet available.
