Captain David Roe of the Societé Des Champs Elyseé has announced the Societé Des Champs Elyseé will not parade on 12th Night this year but will continue to compensate krewe. Roe stated: “This 12th Night, the Societé Des Champs Elyseé will not parade, nor ride a street car, nor dance to their house band, The Mid City Aces, featuring Grammy nominees, Michael & Cameron Dupuy. The Krewe will, however pay them, The Elysian Brass, Flaming Arrows, and Al Johnson, as if all was normal.”
Instead, SDCE will concentrate on creating a Porch Float at 1205 Champs Elyseé (Elysian Fields), under the direction of Marrus, artist of the 9th Ward. The neighborhood theme is St Roch & Roll, which coincides with the SDCE 2021 theme, “We Are The Champions!”
SDCE has been feeding the homeless and hungry for years. Since March, they have worked with Culture Aid NOLA, lowernine.org, World Central Kitchen, Second Harvest, Southern Solidarity & Cattail Cooks among others. SDCE fills Community Fridges, and make hot meals for folks in camps around the city. This year, SDCE raised, and spent $15,000 on food and clothing for the indigenous homeless, as well as the influx from western Louisiana following the hurricanes. This, in addition to collecting truck loads of food and supplies. Truck loads. SDCE has moved mountains of food. They have not kept track of how many pounds, how many meals, how many tears, or smiles. SDCE IS a small krewe, but they do what they can.
Currently, SDCE collecting winter needs for the Calliope camp. They will deliver on 12th Night, Epiphany, when the Wiser Women arrive with gifts that are really needed. No myrrh. Socks and blankets and gloves.
