Pat Casey will lead a tribute to the music of Jaco Pastorius at Snug Harbor in New Orleans on Thursday, September 22.
Pastorius, a bonafide bassist extraordinaire, died on September 21, 1987 at the age of 35 (this Thursday’s show will take place one day after the 29th anniversary of his death). He was best known for his innovative electric bass playing, particularly with seminal jazz-fusion outfit Weather Report. He also made contributions to the works of other giants like Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock and Pat Metheny.
This Thursday’s tribute will find Casey holding down the bass, with Oscar Rossignoli on keyboards, Ricardo Pascal on saxophone and Alfred Jordan on drums. According to it’s Facebook event page, the concert “will feature music written by Jaco Pastorius, as well as music that he left his indelible mark on through his distinctive and virtuosic bass playing.”
In typical Snug Harbor fashion, the night will include an 8pm show that will be followed by a separately ticketed 10pm show. Reservations for both performances are available here.
