The Trombone Shorty Foundation will host its annual Shorty Fest at the House of Blues New Orleans on Thursday, April 28. The event, which is slated to take place after Jazz Fest closes its gates for the night, will feature multiple stages of live music with performances from Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, The Revivalists, New Breed Brass Band and Ivan Neville.
Additionally, students from the Trombone Shorty Academy will perform with instructors Edward Lee and Erion Williams from The Soul Rebels and Mainline Brass Band. If past Shorty Fests are any indicator, more artists will likely be confirmed in the future.
Shorty Fest is a benefit for the Trombone Shorty Foundation, a non-profit that strives to preserve and perpetuate the New Orleans way of life by passing on the city’s musical culture to the next generation. The organization runs the Trombone Shorty Academy, a music education program for New Orleans high school students, as well as the Friedman Music Business Institute, a program that offers music industry training to high school musicians.
As previously reported, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival will take place April 22 through May 1. Thursday, April 28 will feature performances by Tedeschi Trucks Band & Friends, Elvis Costello & The Imposters, Gary Clark Jr., Flo Rida, Snarky Puppy, Brandi Carlile, Sonny Landreth and many more.
