This year’s third annual Save Our Brass event like so many events around the country is going virtual but this has not diminished the event’s All-Star power. This year’s roster of ticketed entertainment that benefits the various programs uses in order to preserve the tradition’s of New Orleans’s beloved brass music. Performers include the OffBeat Best of the Beat 2020 Award-nominatees Shamarr Allen and Erica Falls as well as fan favorites like the Big 6 Brass Band and much more.
Brass Fest was created in 2019 with the mission to celebrate, protect and perpetuate the brass band culture. Ersel Bogan of the organization states: “It’s our goal to make sure our culture lives forever. All of our musicians are paid to perform which is a large part of our budget.”
This year the organization has announced the creation of “The Wolf Fund,” in honor of the recent loss of the community’s late and beloved Keith “Wolf” Anderson, to address the financial need to find a final resting place for our musicians. The Save Our Brass Foundation is committed to raising funds to insure musicians’ families do not bare the financial burden during their time of loss.
Tickets also benefit classes that teach the youth of the community how to play brass instruments.
The livestreamed event will take place March 13 via Facebook (see below for the full roster and line-up). In order to purchase tickets and/or to donate to the Save Our Brass organization, click here.
