The New Orleans Musicians’ Clinic (NOMC) will host its fifth annual Shakedown event when it sends the Naughty Nurses across town to raise awareness and funds for the non-profit on Thursday, January 21.
Each year since 2010, on the the Thursday before the Krewe du Vieux parade, the Naughty Nurses have made visits throughout the evening to collect tax-deductible donations from businesses, bars and restaurants in and around the parade route. Those funds have gone on to benefit the clinic, a 501(c)3 non-profit. This year, the NOMC aims to raise $10,000 with the Shakedown.
“Healthcare for local performers is so important, and these donations will ensure the vital offerings remain available,” said burlesque dancer and head of the Naughty Nurses Trixie Minx in a press statement. “I want the world to know that NOMC is for musicians, dancers, paraders, and all those who are part of our culture. They are the only medical clinic in this country who recognizes artists as athletes.”
Businesses around the city have received notices about the Shakedown, inviting them to submit a tax deductible donation, or request a visit from the Naughty Nurses the evening of January 21 to collect the check. Businesses who did not receive a notice are welcome to request their visit or learn more about ways to give online at: neworleansmusiciansclinic.org/shakedown.
