Exit your comfort zone. Enter the Set. Ring in the New Year with SETGALA and celebrate the iconic creator Grace Jones.
Grace Jones — through constantly creative endeavours — has been a pioneer for fashion and music for decades. Breaking through any and every boundary, she epitomizes the icon of counter-culture. A creative genius, she empowered the tradition of breaking traditions.
The December 31, 2019 celebration (a play on the Met Gala name and a call back to the SETDEFLO parties at the Hi-Ho Lounge) will focus on art, music, fashion, and culture. Transcending genres, crossing boundaries while keeping everything innovative and fresh, the doors open for general admission at 10 p.m. on North Villere Street.
Additionally, DJs G-Cue and Lil Jodeci will collaborate a unique and unforgettable music experience expanding the possible while still speaking to their roots. Lil Jodeci, who was nominated for Best DJ at OffBeat’s 2018 Best of the Beat Awards, told us, “We wanted to highlight a New Year’s Eve party for creatives.” If the party will be anything, it will be new, provocative, and unceasingly creative. The two DJs will showcase their shared passion for progressive music with various well-respected native and international artists in a show you will not want to miss.
Lil Jodeci told OffBeat in March, “When I got educated on the music that I was playing, I started to realize that disco, house, all that shit is created from Jazz, Congo Square. That’s the history of our music, and it’s Black music.” He serves as a prime example of respecting your roots and challenging those roots to grow in completely unexpected and inventive ways. Collaborating with the creative legend, Grace Jones, the event will be unmatched and unrepeatable.
Food will be provided by FOWLMOUTH, described as serving “Classic Puerto Rican Menu Rooted in influence from New Orleans Cuisine.” Cocktails by POP will infuse “fashion into each bar set up and cocktail design to create what she calls liquid art.” Bolingo Ashay’s offerings will focus on “cleaner and healthier cuisine.”
