Diamond Peters, Wild Man for the Red Hawk Hunters, passed away recently. The Hunters have been holding traditional Mardi Gras Indian tributes at Clouet and Rocheblave streets in the Upper Ninth Ward nightly at 7 p.m.; all Mardi Gras Indians are invited to join them and celebrate Peters’ life.
His funeral will take place Saturday at Greater Evergreen Baptist Church (2243 Clouet St.). Visitation starts at 8 a.m., and the family requests that Mardi Gras Indians bring a feather to place in the casket. The service will take place at 9 followed by a traditional Mardi Gras Indian procession. Peters will be buried at Providence Memorial Park Cemetery (8200 Airline Hwy.) and the repast will be at 1526 Alvar St. at 2 p.m.
