2015 Lindy Hop Second Line.

Second Line Parades to Celebrate Early Voting for Louisiana Run-Off

Louisiana has a pretty unique election system. While most of the country decided their biggest races on November 8, our so-called “jungle primary” means we have to endure an extra month of campaign madness.

Nevertheless, Louisiana’s Senate race will come to a close on Saturday, December 10 when Republican John Kennedy and Democrat Foster Campbell face-off in the run-off election.

Early voting for the run-off begins this Saturday, November 26, and an ad hoc coalition of community groups and nonprofit organizations will celebrate with a pair of second lines. The two parades will begin, simultaneously, on the East Bank and West Bank before eventually converging at the Algiers Courthouse, one of four early voting locations in Orleans Parish.

Both second lines will start promptly at 10:30am. The West Bank second line will start at Delcazal Park, and the East Bank second line will start at the Canal Street Ferry Terminal. The Mahogany Brass Band and a number of other musicians will be on hand to lead the parades and support the democratic process.

Route details are listed below. If you’re unable to vote early, you can find out where your Election Day polling place is here.
