The Southern Republican Leadership Conference is in town this weekend, and activists have taken the occasion to organize a second line to protest Governor Bobby Jindal and the party’s philosophy of privatizing public wealth. The second line will gather in Lafayette Square starting at 5:30 p.m., and at 6 the Stooges and Free Agents brass bands will lead this legal, permitted second line to Poydras Street, then down Poydras to the Hilton Riverside Hotel where the conference is meeting.
According to organizers:
As Bobby Jindal is groomed for higher office, the Second Line to stop the privatization of our public wealth, is our opportunity to present a unified response to Jindal’s assault on Lousiana’s state hospital system & public education.
The Second Line likewise, is a forum where activists for housing, criminal justice, the environment and those against the military industrial complex can voice their message to national Republican leaders and gatekeepers, that our common wealth that afford us basic human rights and civil liberties cannot be managed by private corporations that have little or no accountability.
