“These people don’t even know nothing about you,” he says now. “But they gonna be looking at me different after this summer. There’s plenty more where that came from,” Westbank rapper Choppa told OffBeat in 2002.
He was right. Thanks to the New Orleans Saints making Choppa’s 17-year-old track “Choppa Style” their unofficial anthem this season, the rapper’s popularity has skyrocketed.
As reported by HipHopDX’s Justin Ivey, “The team has brought “Choppa Style” back by making it the soundtrack to their locker room’s post-game celebrations. The Hip Hop-friendly team has also been blasting it over the stadium speakers during games.”

Ivey also reported on the numbers pointing to the resurgence in Choppa’s popularity. “This week, the song became one of the Top 50 most downloaded songs on iTunes. The New Orleans Advocate, one of the local papers, got him to make an exclusive remix. And the Saints officially booked him for their next halftime show.”
Choppa himself is getting in on the deal, releasing merch:
On Sunday, January 20, the Saints will face the Los Angeles Rams at the Superdome in a Conference Championship game; the winning team will head to the Super Bowl on February 3 (against either the New England Patriots or Kansas City Chiefs). Oh yeah, and the Super Bowl is in Atlanta, home to the Falcons. Plus, New Orleans’ own PJ Morton will be performing in the halftime show, alongside his Maroon 5 bandmates.
