The boys from New Orleans will kick it root down for the second consecutive summer when Sabotage: A Tribute to the Beastie Boys takes over the House of Blues on Friday night (June 7) at 9 p.m. Featuring members of Flow Tribe, Gravity A, and local performers M@ Peoples and Jermaine Quiz, the multimedia show includes theatrical sets, iconic costumes, and video projections in what is set to be an even larger production than its predecessor. “We’re all so busy most of the year with our respective projects,” explains Sabotage co-founder K.C. O’Rorke (Flow Tribe). “But when we all get together and start rehearsing, the energy just comes back so quickly. It’s great to get this unique group of musicians together who don’t always get to work with one another to do something totally outside [of] what it is we normally do.”
A year after Sabotage’s sold-out engagement at One Eyed Jacks, the Brooklyn trio tribute band is raising the stakes in the hopes of drawing a larger crowd of D.F.L. Beastie’s devotees to a bigger venue. “The turnout last year was just incredible,” Nick “Jermaine Quiz” Pino (Jealous Monk) says of the collective’s decision to stage a second show. “We actually had to turn a lot of people away, which is something we didn’t want to happen this year. We had to make some adaptations to the show to fit the larger space, but we’re hoping it’s just going to make for an even bigger, wilder party.”
For all the brass monkey junkies in New Orleans, tomorrow night’s show at the House of Blues (map) brings the chance to see some of the illest musicians on the scene throwdown on the Beastie’s best. Tickets are $15 (purchase), doors open at 9 p.m., and the party gets cranked up at 10.
