This Saturday, July 11, hundreds of runners will flock to the French Quarter to take part in the 9th annual reenactment of the encierro, or running of the bulls.
The event, called San Fermin en Nueva Orleans, coincides with the actual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain, but the stakes are much lower.
Instead of bulls, participants will be chased through the streets by plastic baseball bat-wielding members of the all female roller derby team the Big Easy Rollergirls.
In addition to the encierro, which takes place at 8 a.m. sharp on Saturday morning, there will be a four day celebration from July 9-12 featuring live music, food vendors, and other entertainment.
