The fifth annual Rougarou Fest will bring the Halloween spirit back to Houma this Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23.
The family-friendly festival will once again be held in downtown Houma, where it will celebrate the bayou culture of Southeast Louisiana and raise funds for the South Louisiana Wetlands Discovery Center, a nonprofit organization that raises awareness about our state’s disappearing coastline.
Rougarou Fest will feature a variety of musical acts, including Sheauxdown, Michael Juan Nunez and the American Electric, Chaos of the Cosmos and the Josh Garrett Band. On Sunday, festivalgoers can listen to Payton Smith, the Bayouside Swingers, and Ben Labat and the Happy Devil. Additionally, the food court will offer plenty of traditional cajun selections such as gumbo, jambalaya, fried catfish with hush puppies, fried pork skins, fried oysters, fried alligator, blackberry dumplings, beignets and pop rouge ice cream.
No Halloween celebration would be complete without a costume contest, and Rougarou will host its own on the steps of the courthouse at 5pm on Saturday. Categories include Pets, Most Creative, Funniest, Scariest Movie Characters, Kids’ Costumes ages 5 and Under, Kids’ Costumes ages 6 to 12, and Best Overall.
Finally, the party will wrap up with the annual Halloween parade, which is set to roll at 7pm on Saturday. The procession will begin in the Town Hall parking lot before making its way up Barrow Street, turning left on Main Street and then traveling down to Grinage Street where it will disband.
Sunday’s festivities will begin with an Episcopal service followed by a day of Cajun and jazz music.
Rougarou Fest will take place from 10am to 10pm on Saturday and 10am to 5pm on Sunday.
