The Rolling Stones have teamed up with Eric Clapton for their first studio album in over a decade. Titled Blue & Lonesome, the album finds the rock pioneers covering songs by blues icons like Little Walter, Howlin’ Wolf, Jimmy Reed and Lightnin’ Slim.
It’s set for release on December 2.
Blue & Lonesome was co-produced by Don Was and recorded during a three day session at London’s British Grove studios. Two of the albums 12 tracks—Little Johnny Taylor’s “Everybody Knows About My Good Thing” and Otis Rush’s “I Can’t Quit You Baby”—feature Eric Clapton, a blues guitar giant in his own right. According to Rolling Stone, the LP was recorded live with the musicians in a circle surrounding the microphones.
The Rolling Stones have teased the upcoming release for a few weeks now with cryptic social media posts that hinted at an impending studio effort. Keith Richards also recently told Rolling Stone the group’s next release would feature a good bit of Chicago blues.
In a lot of ways, the new album appears to be a throwback to the Rolling Stones’ early days, when they cut their teeth covering blues legends and drew heavily from the style on their original material. Take a look at the track list below.
